Roomy, who pleaded guilty to the charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was arrested on November 15, 2024, during a passenger screening at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja. He was attempting to travel from Lagos to Turkey via Addis Ababa when the drugs were discovered hidden in his luggage.

The court offered Roomy an option to pay a fine of N300,000 in lieu of the one-year prison sentence. His defense lawyer, Augustine Nwagu, requested leniency, highlighting that this was Roomy’s first offense and that the tramadol was allegedly for personal use. However, the court proceeded with the sentence while also ordering the forfeiture of Roomy’s passport to the Nigerian Immigration Service. The drugs will be destroyed unless an appeal is filed within the designated period.
