Breaking: NSCDC Commandant General Urges Special Female Squad To Enhance Intelligence Efforts To Protect Schools (Details)
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has called on the Special Female Squad to intensify its efforts in gathering actionable intelligence to prevent any form of attacks on institutions and schools across the country….CONTINUE READING
CSC Babawale Afolabi, the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, stated that Dr. Audi made this appeal during the celebration of the third anniversary of the Special Female Squad. He emphasized that the creation of this squad is a key part of the Corps’ strategy to combat the increasing threat of kidnapping and abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers.
Dr. Audi highlighted the squad’s dedication, attributing it to women’s inherent passion for protecting children. He noted that this passion has driven the squad’s effective operations since its inception.
“When we came on board, it was necessary to develop a robust scheme capable of tackling the emerging threats against the educational sector. From the feasibility study and field survey carried out, we discovered that many schools in the federation were without perimeter fencing, security guards, or mechanisms to forestall attacks and are thus vulnerable,” he stated.
To address these vulnerabilities, the NSCDC took proactive measures by commissioning an all-female squad tasked with safeguarding students, teachers, and school environments from potential threats. Dr. Audi reported that the Special Female Squad (SFS) has since been established in all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), successfully preventing over 48 kidnapping attempts and attacks on educational institutions.
In addition to security operations, the SFS has been active in training and sensitizing school communities on personal security and protection techniques. They have also extended their outreach efforts to the less privileged, providing moral and logistical support in various hospital wards and educational institutions.
Dr. Audi noted that the SFS’s commitment to its duties continues to strengthen. As part of their community service efforts, the squad has distributed relief materials to several hospitals, including the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Wise General Hospital, National Hospital, and Garki General Hospital. They have also visited schools such as the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council Secondary School in Sheda and Gadorasko Primary School in Garki, Abuja.
Concluding his address, Dr. Audi charged the officers and members of the SFS to remain focused, diligent, and determined in their mission to eradicate insecurity in schools. He also encouraged them to continue collaborating with other security agencies in their service to the nation.
