BREAKING: Oba Of Benin Speaks On Next Edo Governor

Oba Ewuare II recently welcomed two gubernatorial aspirants, Kenneth Imansuangbon of the Labour Party (LP) and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to his palace. The aspirants visited to formally announce their intention to vie for the gubernatorial position in the forthcoming September 21, 2024 election in the Southsouth state.

The monarch emphasized the importance of the next governor having a deep reverence for the traditional institution. He sternly warned that those who undermine the seat of authority would incur the wrath of both God and the ancestors.

Addressing Imansuangbon and his supporters, the Oba humorously remarked on the significance of rice in Imansuangbon’s identity. He then extended a warm welcome to Imansuangbon and assured him of the prayers and support of the royal family.

He reiterated the neutrality of the Benin throne in political matters and stressed the need for a governor who genuinely respects the people, upholds their wishes, attends to their needs, and reveres the traditional institution.

The Oba also conveyed similar sentiments to Osunbor, emphasizing that the royal family and chiefs would be offering their prayers for him and his supporters. He expressed his hope for a successful and healthy campaign.

Imansuangbon, hailing from Edo Central senatorial district, declared his gubernatorial aspirations with the goal of ensuring good governance and equitable distribution of democratic dividends throughout Edo.

He expressed gratitude for the Oba’s blessings and announced his intention to assume office on November 12 the following year, succeeding Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo State.

Osunbor, also from the same district, reaffirmed his determination to continue the work he initiated during his previous term as governor, which was cut short due to legal processes.
