Earlier, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had confirmed that the refinery had begun processing crude oil.

NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, released a statement marking the occasion: “Today, Nigeria celebrates a historic achievement as the Port Harcourt Refinery begins crude oil processing. This milestone heralds a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation. Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and GCEO Mele Kyari for their leadership in making this transformative project a reality.”

In response to the announcement, Dare revealed that the refinery’s operations are expected to produce 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day from the Old Refinery. He also noted that 200 trucks would be loading products daily, bringing renewed hope to the country.

This development marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to improve its energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
