Additionally, the university aims to produce graduates proficient in Nigerian languages who can contribute to societal growth. It will also focus on research, innovation, and postgraduate training to support the development of Nigeria’s natural and human resources.

The institution is expected to collaborate with other national language and cultural institutions to promote Nigeria’s linguistic heritage. It will offer language training, consultancy services, outreach programs, and support in-service training and continuing education.

Section 1(2) of the bill highlights the university’s mandate to develop skilled professionals in Nigerian languages, enhance communication in local languages to foster national unity, and support knowledge acquisition in these areas.

Once established, the university will serve as a hub for postgraduate training, research, and innovation, helping Nigeria harness its resources effectively. It will also promote teaching and research in Nigerian languages through various programs and collaborations.

The bill designates the President of Nigeria as the university’s Visitor, granting the president the power to conduct periodic visitations to ensure the institution meets its objectives. Visitations are mandated to occur at least once every five years, with the president or designated representatives overseeing the review of the university’s operations.

Section 15 (1) gives the president authority to remove council members, except the pro-chancellor and vice-chancellor, based on misconduct or inability to perform their duties, following a recommendation from the university council.
