The dramatic rescue unfolded at Jootar village in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, where the victims were held captive by their abductors.

Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, revealed the daring rescue mission, highlighting the troops’ swift response to credible intelligence on the kidnappers’ activities.

“Amidst credible human intelligence, our gallant troops of Sector 1 OPWS, on 21st February 2024, at Jootar village in Ukum LGA of Benue State, successfully rescued 12 kidnapped victims who were traveling from Imo State to Adamawa State,” he declared.

With their superior firepower and strategic maneuvering, the troops startled the kidnappers, prompting them to flee and abandon their captives, leaving the victims unharmed.

Among the rescued individuals were Mr. Sule Abu, Mrs. Ashie Shuaibu, Master Suleiman Abdullahi, Mrs. Zainab Salau, Mr. Muritala Yussuf, Mrs. Zainab Saidu, Mr. Hammed Mamud, Mr. Usman Ali, Mr. Nura Abubakar, Mr. Mohammed Aliyu, Mrs. Felicia Asusis, and Mr. Jacob Nathaniel.

The gallant efforts of Operation Whirl Stroke underscore their unwavering commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.

General Igbinomwanhia reassured the public of Operation Whirl Stroke’s continued vigilance and dedication to safeguarding the lives and properties of all law-abiding citizens within the Joint Task Force Joint Operations Area, instilling confidence and hope in communities affected by criminal activities.
