BREAKING: What Appeal Court Just Did To Tambuwal, Wamakko Senatorial Election

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal affirmed the election victories of two former governors of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal and Aliyu Wamakko, as Senators representing Sokoto South and Sokoto North, respectively.

Aminu Tambuwal, the immediate past governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, faced a challenge to his election from the immediate past senator of the district, Ibrahim Danbaba. Aliyu Wamakko’s election was contested by Manir Dan’iya, the immediate past deputy governor of the state.

In separate judgments, a three-man panel led by Justice Mustapha Muhammad dismissed Danbaba’s petition against Tambuwal and imposed a fine of N500,000 in favor of the defendants and the PDP.

One of the lead counsel for the defendant and the PDP, Suleiman Usman, confirmed that Tambuwal’s election was affirmed, and the petitions against Wamakko were dismissed.

Usman said, “The court just gave their judgment in respect to the two Senatorial elections in the state.

“While the election of Senator Tambuwal was affirmed by the court, the three-man justices in their wisdom also awarded a fine of N500,000 against the petitioner in favour of the defendant and the PDP.

“Meanwhile, the court also in his wisdom dismissed our petitions filed on behalf of the former deputy governor, Manir Dan’iya against the former governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko.

“The court also awarded a fine which I cannot immediately recall against our client in favour of the defendant in this case.”
