CAF Boss Warns Libya ‘No More Excuses’ After Super Eagles’ 15-Hour Airport Detention
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has raised concerns about the troubling situation faced by Nigeria’s Super Eagles during their recent visit to Libya…..CONTINUE READING
Speaking at CAF’s 46th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Motsepe acknowledged the difficulties encountered by the team ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in October.
The Nigerian team faced several challenges, including a rerouted flight from Benghazi Airport to the smaller Al Abraq Airport. This diversion left the team stranded for over 15 hours without basic necessities like food, water, or internet access.
Motsepe stressed the need for swift action, stating, “We should have zero tolerance” for such incidents. Although he refrained from commenting further as a formal investigation is underway, he assured that appropriate measures would be taken. He also pointed out that this type of treatment has persisted for too long, adding, “Too many stories have been told of national teams or football clubs facing unnecessary delays at airports due to non-existent documentation.”
