Chef Behind Hilda Baci’s Guinness Record Reveals Gruelling Week Of Sleepless Work
Chef Gbolabo Adebakin, popularly known as Captain Gibbs, has revealed the extensive planning and relentless effort that went into supporting Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s successful Guinness World Record cook-a-thon, describing it as one of the most demanding projects he has ever worked on.
According to Ireporter Online, Adebakin disclosed that while the record-breaking cooking marathon lasted just over four days, the team behind the scenes spent about a week working almost without sleep to ensure every aspect of the event ran smoothly.
Speaking during an interview, the celebrity chef explained that preparations extended far beyond cooking. He said the team was responsible for menu development, sourcing ingredients, coordinating logistics, managing staff welfare and ensuring strict compliance with Guinness World Records regulations.
Adebakin noted that planning for the event required preparing thousands of meals, making the operation significantly more complex than a typical catering assignment. He explained that every dish had to be carefully scheduled to meet the competition’s strict time limits while also showcasing authentic Nigerian cuisine.
He revealed that although he had booked a nearby hotel with the intention of getting some rest during the marathon, the demands of the project forced him to remain at the venue throughout the event.
The chef also disclosed that the second Guinness World Record attempt proved even more challenging, with the team deploying two large preparation systems—one dedicated to food preparation and another focused on food distribution—to handle the increased workload.
According to him, the planning process involved creating detailed recipes, procurement schedules and cooking timetables while taking into account ingredient freshness, storage limitations and the specific requirements of the record attempt.
Adebakin added that attention was also given to the welfare and safety of staff members, with dedicated schedules designed to ensure everyone involved remained healthy and effective throughout the marathon. He further noted that farmers, market suppliers and vendors played a crucial role in ensuring a steady supply of fresh ingredients during the exercise.
