Chidi Odinkalu Lambasts EFCC Over Bobrisky’s Arrest

The EFCC, in a statement posted on its official Instagram page, revealed that its operatives had initiated an investigation into Bobrisky’s alleged act of spraying Naira notes. The investigation stemmed from a video report showing Bobrisky flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the ‘Ajakaju’ movie premiere, hosted by Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao at Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, on March 24, 2024.

Expressing his discontentment with the EFCC’s actions, Odinkalu stressed that the power of arrest and prosecution should not be wielded to target individuals disliked by the authorities. He questioned the EFCC’s priorities, highlighting the recent surge in electricity tariffs as a more pressing concern ignored amidst the focus on Bobrisky’s arrest.

Odinkalu’s criticism extends to those applauding the EFCC’s actions, suggesting that blaming Bobrisky for societal issues like poverty is misplaced. He ridicules the notion that Bobrisky is responsible for various national problems, such as election rigging, judicial corruption, treasury looting, currency inflation, and even funding extremist groups like Boko Haram.

In his scathing remarks, Odinkalu insinuates that the EFCC’s actions represent a diversion from more significant issues facing Nigeria, portraying Bobrisky as a scapegoat for systemic failures. He condemns what he perceives as an abuse of power by the EFCC and urges a reconsideration of the agency’s priorities in tackling corruption and addressing national challenges.
