Upon arrival at the court for the scheduled hearing, parties were informed by the Clerk that Justice Stephen Daylop Pam was unavailable due to indisposition, prompting the selection of a new date.

The CSO members sought clarification from the court on the interpretation of Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution, questioning whether lawmakers who switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress retain their legitimacy as representatives of their constituencies.

Led by Rivers State Chairman Enefaa Georgewill, the CSOs also requested the court to prevent Governor Siminalayi Fubara from presenting the 2024 budget to the defected lawmakers.

Enefaa Georgewill, speaking to reporters, expressed disappointment at the prolonged delay for the hearing, accusing the lawmakers’ counsel, led by Martin Amaewhule, of merely stalling proceedings.

He remarked, “They now have one month plus for a matter they have failed to respond to for the past two months. It is quite unfortunate, and we know they are just buying time. But like we always say, justice will always be delayed but it cannot be denied.”

Georgewill emphasized the importance of the lawmakers appearing in court to address the allegations, stating that the matter has the backing of the Supreme Court and expressing confidence in a favorable outcome.
