Deadly Raid: Internet Fraud Suspect Kills EFCC Officer During Crackdown In Awka

The incident occurred when Sahabi’s team conducted a raid in the Ifite area of Awka. The operation turned violent as a suspect, later identified as Chukwuka Josiah Ikechukwu Nnamdi, opened fire on the EFCC team. Sahabi sustained fatal injuries, and another operative was wounded.

Nnamdi, a medical doctor, was apprehended after attempting to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling of his neighbor’s home. Police reported that the suspect discarded the weapon, a licensed pump-action gun belonging to his father, after the shooting. Nnamdi claimed he acted in self-defense and is currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he faces potential murder charges.

Following the attack, Sahabi was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Reports indicate that the EFCC operatives were not equipped with bulletproof vests during the operation, raising concerns about their safety measures.

Sahabi’s remains were returned to his hometown in Sokoto, where he was buried according to Islamic rites. His untimely death has left his family, friends, and colleagues grieving.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, which highlights the ongoing dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the fight against cybercrime.
