The denial follows reports of a violent clash where 16 army personnel, including a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were killed by youths in the Okuama community.
According to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), the soldiers were attacked while on a peace mission by some youths from the community.
In response to the deadly assault, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division Nigerian Army, initiated a rigorous manhunt for the perpetrators, leading to several arrests reportedly made in connection with the killings.
While images and videos surfaced online depicting houses in the Okuama community allegedly razed by soldiers in a reprisal attack, General Musa clarified in a conversation with Reuters that the army did not carry out any retaliatory action against the community.
He emphasized the military’s focus on apprehending the perpetrators and recovering their weapons, denying any involvement in acts of reprisal.
