Defence Chief Condemns Killing Of Hunters In Edo

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has strongly condemned the tragic killing of hunters in transit in Edo State. This statement was issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, on Sunday in Abuja.

He extended his condolences to President Bola Tinubu and to the families of those who lost their lives. The CDS also urged Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of involving the appropriate authorities in matters concerning security.

According to General Musa, the Nigeria Police, military, and other security agencies are well-equipped to address such situations. He reassured the public that the military would collaborate with the police and relevant agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The Defence Chief further warned that all local hunters and vigilante groups must register with the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, or any other authorized body responsible for regulating firearm ownership.

He urged vigilante groups to always seek police intervention for proper handling of security matters and called for calm while seeking the continued support of citizens for the Armed Forces and other security agencies in carrying out their constitutional duties effectively.

The police in Edo State have confirmed the arrest of 14 suspects in connection with the attack on the group of hunters on Thursday at Udune Efandion, located in the Uromi community of Esan North Local Government Area.
