Ramadan: Northern CAN Extends Eid Greetings To Muslims, Condemns Uromi Killings
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and globally on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
This was announced in a joint statement by the Chairman of CAN, Rev. John Hayab, and the Secretary-General, Bishop Mohammed Naga, on Sunday in Kaduna….READ MORE….
The leaders emphasized the spiritual significance and rewards of Ramadan for all who embraced its teachings, as prescribed in the Holy Books.
The association also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State. “The pain and anguish their families and loved ones must endure are unimaginable, and we share in their suffering,” they said. They extended prayers for God to provide comfort, strength, and solace to the grieving families during this dark time.
Condemning the violent act in the strongest terms, CAN called it a stain on humanity. “This brutal loss of innocent lives should unite us all in our outrage and commitment to ensuring that justice is served,” the statement read. CAN also emphasized that this was not just an attack on a specific region but an assault on shared humanity.
“We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and pray for peace to be restored and for an end to violence and bloodshed in our nation,” the statement continued. The association expressed hope for the healing of the land, the rebuilding of trust, and protection for all Nigerians.
The Northern CAN also extended its deepest condolences to the victims’ families, praying that God grants them the strength to endure their profound loss. “May the memories of your loved ones be a blessing, and their sacrifices not be in vain.”
They urged those calling for retaliation to reconsider, noting that revenge is not a solution but will only lead to further chaos and destruction. “It is the innocent who will suffer most, and the cycle of violence will only intensify,” they warned.
CAN also condemned stereotypes and generalizations that seek to demonize Nigerians based on the actions of a few. “We must reject such divisive rhetoric, which only fuels mistrust and violence. Evil is evil, and criminals should be treated as such without regard to the identities they use to evade justice.”
The group stressed the need for unity in rejecting violence, urging that Nigerians work toward a future where all citizens can live without fear, regardless of their background.
The Northern CAN called on the security agencies, the Edo State Government, and the Federal Government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the crime and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. “Swift and fair punishment for criminals is essential for lasting peace,” they said, emphasizing that a strengthened justice system is crucial for building a safer, more just society for all Nigerians.
