Peter Obi Visits Onitsha Fire Disaster Sites, Offers Support To Victims

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, visited the scenes of two devastating fires at the Electronics Market Plaza on Iweka Road and a warehouse on Ifejirika Street in the Main Market, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, expressed deep sympathy for the traders affected, noting that many of them depend entirely on their businesses for survival.

“This is a tremendous loss for the victims,” he remarked. “I pledge to support the victims in any way I can, and I call on all levels of government, individuals, and financial institutions to step forward and assist the affected traders. In times like these, our shared humanity must guide us. Let’s unite to restore hope, rebuild livelihoods, and renew the spirit of community that defines us.”

During his visit, Obi met privately with market leaders and some of the most affected traders, offering words of encouragement. He also commended the Anambra State Fire Service for their efforts in containing the fires under challenging circumstances.

At the Iweka Road site, one of the affected traders, Jeremiah Nwabueze, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Obi’s visit, calling it a source of great comfort. He acknowledged that Obi’s presence had provided solace and solidarity to the affected victims.
