Peter Obi Denies Joining APC, Clarifies His Political Position
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has categorically denied joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement posted on his handle on Friday night, Obi responded to rumors suggesting his involvement in an APC gathering, emphasizing that he is not a member of the party and has no intention of joining it.
Obi further clarified that he does not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. He stated, “I have come across a report circulating on social media regarding an APC gathering where my name was mentioned. Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives….READ MORE….
He reiterated that his political stance is rooted in integrity, fairness, and issue-based discourse. Obi expressed that political parties should focus on evaluating candidates based on their competence, capacity, and compassion, qualities essential for the development of Anambra and Nigeria.
Regarding Valentine Ozigbo, Obi emphasized that he, like all aspirants, should be judged on key leadership qualities within his new political party. He argued that elections and primaries should not be reduced to toxic narratives or personal attacks but should instead be driven by credibility, vision, and the ability to bring about meaningful change.
As the Anambra State governorship election in November approaches, Obi called for a transparent and democratic process in all political parties, with free and fair primaries. He urged all stakeholders to reject toxic politics, stressing that only through such an approach could Nigeria move closer to achieving the true democracy it currently lacks.
