In interviews with NAN on Thursday in Enugu, a cross-section of residents expressed their continued preference for drinking garri, citing various reasons such as habit, enjoyment, and ease of preparation.

Mrs. Beatrice Chigbo, a tailor at Agbani Road in Enugu, stated that while she was aware of Lassa fever, it would not deter her from consuming garri, which she enjoys particularly during hot weather.

Similarly, Miss Udodi Ibe from Achara Layout mentioned that despite hearing about Lassa fever, she had not witnessed anyone suffering from the disease, leading her to continue drinking garri.

Mr. Chukwu Olisa, a beans seller at Mayor Market, admitted to consuming garri regularly as part of his lunch, emphasizing its status as one of his favorite foods.

However, not all residents are dismissive of the risks associated with consuming garri. Miss Juliet Ozo, a teacher, highlighted the importance of being cautious in light of the Lassa fever resurgence. She emphasized the need for maintaining cleanliness to prevent rodents, the carriers of the disease, from accessing food and living spaces.

While some residents remain undeterred by the warnings, others like Miss Ozo are taking proactive measures to mitigate the risk of contracting Lassa fever, underscoring the importance of public awareness and preventive measures amidst health concerns.
