Doctor Licenses Revoked For Misconduct, Medical Malpractice
A Romanian doctor practicing within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has been permanently stripped of his medical license after being found guilty of sexually abusing patients, including minors, and engaging in gross medical misconduct…..READ ALSO Former World Medical Association President, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, Advocates for Ethical Governance In Global Health At SAMA 2024 Conference
The scandal unfolded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, where patients endured unwarranted anal examinations and the insertion of medications into their rectums without proper consent or clinical justification by Dr. Iuliu Stan.
A tribunal uncovered disturbing details of Dr. Stan’s actions, revealing that he preyed on vulnerable patients, subjecting them to invasive and inappropriate procedures for his own sexual gratification. Shockingly, over 21 patients, some of whom were minors, fell victim to his predatory behavior over a five-year period.
Among the harrowing accounts presented, one patient had their genitals inappropriately handled, while another, a teenager, suffered from a bacterial infection after Dr. Stan inserted a catheter without valid medical reasons.
The tribunal condemned Dr. Stan’s actions as egregious violations of medical ethics and patient trust, ultimately leading to his permanent expulsion from the medical profession. Despite attempts to justify his behavior, the tribunal found no mitigating factors and deemed erasure from the medical register as the only appropriate sanction to protect future patients and uphold professional standards.
The disturbing revelations have prompted inquiries into the handling of the case by both the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. Patient safety remains paramount, with authorities pledging to investigate further and ensure accountability for any lapses in safeguarding procedures.
Dr. Stan, who has since returned to Romania, has 28 days to appeal the tribunal’s ruling, while authorities continue to explore avenues for potential criminal investigation and safeguarding measures.
The shocking case underscores the importance of robust safeguarding protocols and the need for rigorous oversight to prevent such egregious abuses of power within the medical profession.
