During the interview on the Arise News breakfast show, Senator Jarigbe expressed reluctance to delve into the specifics of the budget, citing potential trouble over the questions being posed.
When asked about the budgetary provisions for his senatorial district, Senator Jarigbe admitted he hadn’t scrutinized the details line by line. He then redirected the conversation, expressing a desire to focus on his gratitude and service to his constituents.
The TV anchor, in response, clarified that she, as a journalist, was not elected by the people of Cross River North and thus was not responsible for scrutinizing the budget in detail. However, before the discussion could proceed further, Senator Jarigbe voiced his frustration, suggesting he would prefer to discuss his representation quietly without facing potential repercussions from discussing the budget.
Subsequently, the connection to Senator Jarigbe was abruptly lost, leaving the interview unfinished.
The incident comes amid controversy surrounding the integrity of the 2024 budget, with allegations of padding by Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi. Despite refutations from both the National Assembly and the Executive, Senator Ningi has been suspended for three months over the allegations.
