Speaking out against the backdrop of the party’s leadership and ownership disputes, Obi emphasized that he refuses to sacrifice his objectives for Nigeria amid the turmoil within the Labour Party.
The party has been embroiled in a power struggle, with Julius Abure and Apapa Lamidi contending for the position of National Chairmanship, while the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) asserts its stake in the party’s ownership. Despite controversies surrounding Abure’s re-election during a recent national convention, the crisis persists.
During an appearance on an X space hosted by Parallel Facts, Obi underscored his commitment to Nigeria’s welfare, stressing that his focus remains on addressing critical issues such as water, power, employment, and security.
Asserting his determination to effect change within the Labour Party, Obi drew a parallel with biblical teachings, highlighting the importance of not compromising one’s principles. He indicated that while he is making efforts to reform the party, he will not jeopardize his mission by being entangled in its internal strife.
In echoing the biblical analogy, Obi emphasized that he is prepared to depart from the Labour Party if efforts to reform it prove futile, emphasizing that he will not allow himself to be consumed by its internal discord.
Obi’s remarks underscore the escalating tensions within the Labour Party and signal a potential seismic shift in Nigeria’s political landscape as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
