The event took place on April 22, according to the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC).

In a statement released by Barrister Farmasum Fuddang, the chairman of BCDC, the council expressed its strong condemnation of the incident.

It was reported that the soldier, identified only as Gideon, was firing shots randomly while celebrating at a local relaxation centre when one of the bullets fatally struck Jelmang.

The BCDC has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for the victim.

The body said, “We strongly condemned the perpetrators’ desperate attempt to conceal the crime by falsely labeling the innocent passerby and residents who tried to save his life by transporting him to the hospital as militants.

“We demand the swift and decisive action of the military authorities and the Attorney General in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law.”

BCDC also demanded the immediate release of all those arrested by soldiers in Marish on April 22 and previously.

Spokesman of Operation Save Haven (OPSH) in Jos, Major Samson Khazom, didn’t respond to calls and enquiries when contacted.
