In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Shaibu emphasized that he is not a desperate politician, clarifying that his decision to conduct a parallel primary stemmed from concerns about the flawed process of the official PDP primary election in Edo.
Shaibu asserted his legitimacy as the PDP flagbearer in Edo State, warning that failure to recognize him could jeopardize the party’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the primary process, Shaibu criticized the conduct of the previous primary as “cosmetic,” highlighting irregularities such as allowing personal aides to vote for aspirants.
Expressing his commitment to the PDP’s success in Edo, Shaibu extended an invitation to his counterpart, Asue Ighodalo, to join forces and work together toward their common goals.
He cautioned against complacency within the party, urging vigilance to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. Shaibu also noted the potential support from the PDP Governors Forum, emphasizing the importance of unity and solidarity among party members.
As the political landscape in Edo continues to evolve, Shaibu remains steadfast in his assertion of authenticity, confident that his candidacy will prevail as the legitimate choice for the PDP in the upcoming elections.
