Disputing Akpabio’s claims, Governor Makinde emphasized that no such funds were disbursed to any state, dismissing the allegations as unfounded. Addressing the audience at a function in Iseyin, Governor Makinde, also the Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), asserted that he could speak with authority on the matter.
Citing the intricate financial mechanisms governing revenue distribution, Governor Makinde clarified that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) does not have the authority to allocate funds directly to states. All revenues, he noted, are deposited into the federation account, from which distributions are made to all tiers of government.
Governor Makinde stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, expressing concern over the potential repercussions of spreading unverified reports. He underscored the need for constructive dialogue and effective policy adjustments to address the pressing issues of hunger and economic hardship.
Asserting his stance with confidence, Governor Makinde called for factual scrutiny and open discourse, inviting challenges to his assertion. Echoing his sentiments, other state governors across Nigeria have similarly refuted Akpabio’s claims, reinforcing the message of financial integrity and responsible governance.
