A video circulating online shows the lifeless body of the officer, who was not in uniform, surrounded by sympathizers, including police officers. The officers conducted a search of the deceased’s bag, during which his EFCC identity card was discovered.

A voice in the video confirmed, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

Speaking with journalists on Monday, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the officer’s death and stated that an investigation into the incident is underway. “Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday,” Oyewale said.

This tragic event follows a recent incident reported on January 15, where a suspected cybercriminal in Onitsha, Anambra State, shot and killed EFCC Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu during a raid.

The EFCC has condemned negative narratives surrounding the death of its officers and vowed to ensure that justice is served in all such cases.
