EFCC Returns Recovered Land Documents To Victims Of Abuja Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday returned four recovered land title documents to victims of a fraudulent land scheme in Abuja…READ MORE…
The title documents, falsified by a criminal syndicate, had been used to deprive legitimate landowners of their properties. Acting on credible intelligence, EFCC investigators dismantled the syndicate and retrieved the forged documents.
In a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, it was revealed that the recovered documents included:
- Plot 895, Kaura District (valued at ₦150 million), returned to Mr. Asinobi Emmanuel Ogbuefi.
- Plot 714, Jahi District (valued at ₦400 million), returned to the family of the late Ambassador Joseph D. Daze.
- Plot 625, Guzape District (valued at ₦200 million), returned to Mr. Nuhu Umar.
- Plot 1167, Katampe Extension (valued at ₦250 million), returned to Mr. Omar Ali Bintawa.
Investigation and Findings
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede commended the diligent work of investigators, revealing that the syndicate engaged in sophisticated forgery. They falsified signatures, identification documents, and passports of the rightful landowners to declare the original documents missing. The forged documents were then fraudulently reissued to the syndicate.
“This group of fraudsters was deeply entrenched in manipulating land title processes, but our efforts have ensured justice for the victims. The EFCC, in collaboration with the FCT Administration, will continue to crack down on such criminals and ensure they face the full weight of the law,” Olukoyede said.
Restoring Justice
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Nuhu Umar expressed gratitude to the EFCC, stating, “We never thought this day would come. EFCC’s efforts have restored our hope and rightful ownership.”
Olukoyede reassured the public of the EFCC’s commitment to ensuring transparency and preventing land fraud in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). “We will not allow fraudsters to enjoy the proceeds of their crimes. All offenders will be brought to justice,” he emphasized.
