The documents, which had been falsified by a criminal syndicate to dispossess legitimate owners of their properties, were recovered through EFCC investigations prompted by actionable intelligence.

In a statement, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale revealed the details of the recovered documents:

• Plot 895, Kaura District (valued at ₦150 million), returned to Mr. Asinobi Emmanuel Ogbuefi.
• Plot 714, Jahi District (valued at ₦400 million), returned to the family of the late Ambassador Joseph D. Daze.
• Plot 625, Guzape District (valued at ₦200 million), returned to Mr. Nuhu Umar.
• Plot 1167, Katampe Extension (valued at ₦250 million), returned to Mr. Omar Ali Bintawa.

Details of the Syndicate’s Operations

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede explained that the syndicate used elaborate forgery to carry out their crimes. They falsified signatures, identification documents, and even passports of rightful landowners to declare the original title documents missing. Once declared missing, the syndicate would forge new documents and fraudulently obtain replacements.

“This syndicate exploited the land title process by forging critical documents. However, with diligent investigation, we have not only recovered these documents but ensured justice for the rightful owners. Collaborating with the FCT Administration, we are committed to eliminating such crimes,” Olukoyede said.

Victims Express Gratitude

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Nuhu Umar, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the EFCC for their efforts. “We never imagined this day would come. The EFCC has given us hope and restored our rightful ownership,” he said.

EFCC’s Commitment to Justice

Olukoyede assured the public that land fraudsters in the Federal Capital Territory would face justice. “We will ensure that no criminal enjoys the proceeds of their illicit activities. Our collaboration with the FCT Administration will make certain that such crimes are thoroughly addressed,” he added.

The EFCC’s action serves as a significant step toward restoring trust and ensuring fairness in land ownership in Abuja.
