Elon Musk Ordered to Face Regulators: Judge Demands Answers In Twitter/X Probe
A significant legal development unfolds as a US judge issues a compelling order for Elon Musk to engage with regulators regarding his Twitter share acquisitions last year…..READ ALSO Elon Musk Reveals Milestone Achievement With Neuralink’s Brain Chip Implant
The directive follows Musk’s failure to attend a scheduled deposition with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in September, despite beefing up his stake in Twitter, now dubbed X, before orchestrating its acquisition for a staggering $44 billion.
In a decisive ruling by California judge Laurel Beeler, published recently, the court grants the SEC’s application to enforce the subpoena, compelling Musk to provide testimony within a week, pending agreement on logistics.
The SEC’s investigation casts a wide net, encompassing all of Musk’s Twitter stock transactions in 2022 alongside his disclosures and filings with market regulators, highlighting the gravity of the scrutiny.
Despite Musk’s objections, including claims of harassment by the SEC, the commission argues that his continued resistance impedes its inquiry into potential securities law violations.
Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, rebuts these claims, emphasizing the redundancy of further depositions in what he deems a misguided investigation.
The billionaire’s tenure at Twitter has been marred by controversies and legal entanglements, with ongoing lawsuits from shareholders alleging delayed disclosures of his substantial stake, underscoring the high stakes involved.
As legal proceedings advance, the spotlight intensifies on Musk’s interactions with regulators, underscoring the pivotal role of transparency and compliance in the realm of corporate governance.
