Elon Musk Proposes Charges For New X Users
Elon Musk, the owner of the microblogging platform X, has announced plans to implement charges for new users registering on the social media platform. According to Musk, charging new users a nominal fee is deemed the most effective strategy to counter the incessant influx of bots on the platform. He elaborated that new users would be required to pay a small fee for posting privileges, with free posting access granted after three months.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Musk highlighted the prevalent issue of artificial intelligence (AI) and troll farms easily bypassing bot detection measures. Additionally, the proliferation of fake accounts consumes the available namespace, leading to the depletion of desirable usernames.
This initiative follows Musk’s previous introduction of a $1 per year charge for new users in New Zealand and the Philippines on October 17, 2023. The aim was to provide users from these countries with access to essential features such as tweeting, retweeting, liking posts, and replying to posts.
In a separate development, Elon Musk has been recognized as the world’s richest individual in the automobile industry by Forbes Billionaire List. With a staggering wealth of $189.2 billion, Musk’s significant stake in Tesla has propelled him to the forefront of the sector.
Following Musk, Stefan Quandt ranks as the second wealthiest in the automobile world, boasting a fortune of $28.2 billion derived from his substantial share in BMW. Meanwhile, Robin Zeng, the founder of Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), secures the third position with a net worth of $28 billion, attributed to CATL’s leadership in electric vehicle battery technology.
