His detention stems from his voluntary surrender to the police following accusations linking him to the killing of 17 military personnel in the state.

Abizor Henry, the Secretary of the Ewu-Urhobo Traditional Council of Chiefs, expressed dismay over the inability to establish communication with Ikolo despite persistent efforts from family, friends, and his legal team. Requests for access, including formal pleas from Ikolo’s lawyer, Ama Etuwewe (SAN), have gone unanswered, raising concerns about transparency and Ikolo’s well-being.

The circumstances leading to Ikolo’s arrest are rooted in his recent ascension to the throne, which faced contentious opposition from other claimants. Tensions escalated prior to his official enthronement, prompting Ikolo to seek police assistance, albeit unsuccessfully, in maintaining order. Upon returning from medical treatment abroad, Ikolo engaged in efforts to reconcile warring factions when the attack on military personnel occurred. Despite condemning the violence and advocating for justice, he found himself implicated.

Ikolo’s proactive decision to clear his name led to his voluntary surrender to the Delta State Commissioner of Police for interrogation. However, he was subsequently handed over to the military and transported to Abuja, where he remains detained. The lack of communication and transparency surrounding Ikolo’s detention underscores growing apprehension among his supporters and community members.
