The Trump administration has initiated a sweeping overhaul of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), drastically reducing its workforce and transferring most of its operations to the State Department. Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported the restructuring, stating, “We are reorienting our foreign assistance programs to directly serve the best interests of the United States and our citizens,” describing USAID’s previous structure as “misguided and fiscally irresponsible.”

However, the cuts have been met with strong opposition from lawmakers and USAID employees, many of whom argue that the reductions are unlawful and detrimental to U.S. global interests.
