Ajah’s statement comes in response to allegations of unjust termination leveled against ENSUBEB, following the dismissal of the teachers who had subsequently tendered a written apology, admitting to their wrongdoing.

He reiterated the board’s unwavering commitment to upholding discipline and a code of conduct, emphasizing that such measures are essential for enhancing the standard of education in the state.

Addressing the media over allegations that Mrs. Ujunwa Onyia and four other teachers were unfairly dismissed over advocacy for teachers’ minimum wage, Ajah dismissed such claims as fabrications. He clarified that the teachers were among those found guilty of misconduct, truancy, unauthorized absence from duty, insubordination, and other infractions contrary to the Public Service Rules.

Ajah emphasized that Mrs. Onyia’s misconduct was just one case out of thirteen similar instances reviewed by the board during its meeting. He refuted any connection between the disciplinary action and demands for a minimum wage, noting that Governor Peter Mbah had promptly approved and implemented the N30,000 minimum wage for primary school teachers.

The Chairman presented an apology letter from Mrs. Ujunwa Onyia and her colleagues, expressing regret for their breach of communication channels and acknowledging their disrespectful behavior. They pleaded for reinstatement, vowing to improve their conduct and regain trust.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Enugu State Chapter, expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for implementing the N30,000 minimum wage for primary school teachers. The union reiterated its stance against indiscipline and praised the governor’s commitment to addressing teachers’ concerns.

Comrade Theophilus Nweke, the Enugu NUT Chairman, pledged the teachers’ unwavering support for Governor Mbah’s efforts to reform the education sector, emphasizing the need for dedication to duty and ethical conduct among teachers.
