Ensuring Peace And Stability: Tinubu’s Ministers Call For Dialogue Over ProtestsDetails have emerged regarding the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Monday, where President Bola Tinubu and his ministers discussed the planned nationwide protest. The council concluded that there is no need for such action, given the measures already being taken to address the issues raised by the protesters.
During a post-meeting briefing, Information Minister Mohammed Idris outlined various measures implemented by the Tinubu administration to alleviate the negative impacts of recent government policies on Nigerians.
Young Nigerians have scheduled a 10-day nationwide protest starting August 1, demanding the reversal of policies that have led to Nigeria’s worst cost of living crisis in a generation. Protesters argue that the removal of petrol subsidies and the floating of the naira have caused food prices to more than double since last year.
Idris reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the protesters’ concerns through proactive measures. He emphasized that the administration is a “listening government” and is already working on solutions to the problems raised.
The government appealed to citizens to reconsider the protest, warning that it could be hijacked by unscrupulous elements and turn violent. Idris stressed that while peaceful protests are a democratic right, the government prefers addressing issues through dialogue and cooperation.
The Federal Executive Council’s meeting underscored the government’s efforts to address the economic challenges facing Nigeria and appealed for a reconsideration of the planned protest. The administration emphasized its commitment to resolving issues through proactive measures and peaceful dialogue.
