Fayose: No Hunger Protests During Buhari’s Eight Years Despite Hardship
Fayose: No Hunger Protests During Buhari’s Eight Years Despite HardshipFormer Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, recently spoke out about the ongoing food crisis in Nigeria, emphasizing that hunger has persisted since the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. His comments come in light of the planned nationwide protest against the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose observed that hunger in Nigeria has been an ongoing issue, persisting since former President Goodluck Jonathan left office. He recalled that during Jonathan’s administration, some Nigerians protested against hunger and other challenges.
Fayose expressed surprise that despite the hardships during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, no significant hunger protests occurred. He highlighted that Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from May 2015 to May 2023, did not face the same level of public demonstrations against hunger as Jonathan did.
Fayose commented on the planned nationwide protest, tagged #EndBadGovernance, against the current administration. He suggested that the upcoming protest, scheduled to start on August 1, has political dimensions and is not solely about addressing hunger and economic hardship.
Fayose noted that the economic challenges Nigeria faces today stem from previous administrations. He stressed that no government is perfect and that economic issues are a cumulative result of long-term governance problems.
Fayose suggested that Nigeria is a difficult country to govern and proposed giving a mid-term evaluation to leaders to assess their performance. He argued that immediate protests calling for the government’s downfall are not constructive and may have underlying motives.
Ayodele Fayose’s remarks shed light on the enduring hunger crisis in Nigeria and the political dimensions of the planned protests. He calls for a more nuanced understanding of the country’s economic challenges and suggests mid-term evaluations as a potential solution for better governance.
