Evans Is Now Reformed, Lawyer Appeals To Lagos For Mercy

Speaking at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja on Wednesday, Chief Emefo Etudo stated that Evans had undergone a transformation and had applied for a plea bargain through the Attorney General’s office.

“My client is now a repentant man. He was once consumed by crime, but he is now remorseful. He is currently a 200-level student at the National Open University and even excelled in his NECO exams while in prison, all made possible through a Federal Government scholarship,” Etudo told the court.

The defense lawyer further suggested that Evans could serve the state by educating young people on the dangers of crime, requesting that the government allow him to visit schools for anti-crime awareness programs.

Confirming the plea bargain application, state prosecutor Y.A. Sule said the Lagos State Government would review it, but also emphasized that the day’s court proceedings were meant for the re-arraignment of Evans to allow the case to start afresh.

Following submissions from both parties, Justice Adenike Coker adjourned the case until March 20 for possible trial.

Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Chief Etudo revealed that Evans’ reformation was due to the efforts of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Federal Government, which provided him with a scholarship.

“My client is a changed man. His transformation has been remarkable, and he is now dedicated to becoming a better person,” the lawyer stated.
