Mrs. Obiefule noted that the current Imo Assembly lacks any female representation, making the governor’s choice of Ekomaru significant in terms of promoting gender equality and inclusivity.

She commended the governor for responding to the call for greater women’s involvement in governance and urged politicians at all levels to follow suit, aligning with the National Gender Policy that advocates for a 35 percent affirmative action for women.

“By selecting a female running mate, Governor Uzodimma has conveyed a strong message that he values women’s role in politics and acknowledges their capacity to contribute significantly to the state’s development and progress,” she stated.

Mrs. Obiefule also pointed out that Uzodimma’s choice of a Pentecostal candidate in a predominantly Christian state as a Catholic believer could foster a sense of inclusivity among non-Catholics.

She expressed confidence that if Governor Uzodimma emerges as the winner of the election, more women would gain prominence and feel more included.

“In various ways, this decision is strategic, and we hope it leads to greater positive outcomes for the people of Imo,” she concluded.
