This claim appears to have emerged from a screenshot of a tweet circulating on Facebook since early July 2023.

The tweet, attributed to Bello’s verified Twitter account @OfficialGYBKogi, states: “Tinubu has no say in Kogi election come November 2023, I can’t forget what he did to me during the Presidential primaries. I am in charge of my State and will not allow anyone intrude in my affairs.” The tweet includes a photo of Bello.

The governorship elections in Kogi are scheduled for 11 November. Bello has already served two four-year terms and is not eligible for re-election.

Bello and Tinubu are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Bello ran for nomination in the party’s presidential primary in 2022 but lost to Tinubu.

However, no credible media reports have substantiated Bello’s alleged warning to Tinubu.

On 5 July, Bello addressed the claim by labeling it as fake news in a tweet that showed the screenshot crossed out with the words “FAKE NEWS!!!”. He clarified that the image had been photoshopped by mischief makers and urged caution.

Despite the alleged tweet’s poor grammar and Bello’s denial, there is no verified evidence on his Twitter account to support the claim that he warned Tinubu against meddling in the Kogi state election.
