The demonstrators accused both companies of exploiting staff, denying them hazard allowances, and withholding rightful payments.
The protest began at the IBEDC office on Ring Road before moving to the premises of the recruitment outsourcing agent. Protesters claimed many employees have remained as casual workers for years, earning minimal wages with no chance of securing permanent positions.
Speaking to journalists, Oluwatobiloba Omisore, a casual worker, alleged that IBEDC and its recruitment agent subjected employees to excessive labour without fair compensation. Another protester, Olaoye Luqman, called on the President of Nigeria, the Ministers of Labour and Power, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene, stressing that Nigerian workers deserve fair treatment and dignity in the workplace.
The protesters also demanded the enforcement of the federal government’s minimum wage policy, accusing their employers of failing to provide fair wages.
In response, Angela Olanrewaju, IBEDC’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, clarified that the company does not employ casual workers directly, as those roles have been outsourced.
