Femi Kuti Reveals Nigeria’s Real Problem, Says ‘Tinubu Is Not The Issue

Nigerian Afrobeat veteran Femi Kuti has argued that President Bola Tinubu is not the country’s biggest problem, identifying the judiciary and entrenched corruption as major factors contributing to Nigeria’s challenges.

According to Ireporter Online, the musician made the remarks during a recent episode of the Good News Naija podcast, where he questioned the effectiveness of Nigeria’s judicial system and its role in the country’s political affairs.

Femi Kuti argued that a stronger and more independent judiciary would have addressed some of the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s emergence as president.

He questioned how the President was able to contest the election despite various allegations that had been raised against him, insisting that the judicial system should have played a stronger role in scrutinising such issues.

“Do you think Tinubu is the problem? The judiciary that didn’t stop him from getting there in the first place is a problem,” he said.

The Afrobeat singer maintained that Nigeria’s problems extend beyond any individual politician, describing corruption as deeply entrenched across different sectors of the country.

He argued that many people entrusted with leadership positions belong to an established political and economic elite, making it difficult to achieve meaningful systemic change.

Femi Kuti further expressed concern that the persistence of corruption and weak institutions could discourage young Nigerians and diminish their hopes for a better future.

He stressed that the country needed people with integrity and strong character in positions of authority if it was to overcome its longstanding challenges.

“If we had men and women of calibre and integrity, he wouldn’t have been able to contest in the first place,” he stated.

The musician has previously spoken openly about political and social issues in Nigeria, often using his music and public appearances to criticise corruption, poor governance and institutional failures.

Femi Kuti was also recently involved in a light-hearted moment involving celebrity dancer Korra Obidi after a concert in Lagos.

A video shared by Obidi showed the musician declining to take a photograph with her and instead calling his sister, Yeni Kuti, to join them.

The incident followed controversy over Obidi’s twerking dance tribute at the gravesite of Femi’s father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, during her visit in December 2025.

Femi reportedly joked that he already had enough issues to deal with and did not want to become involved in another social media controversy.
