African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has denied claims that he ever asked Peter Obi to provide money for his house rent, describing the allegation as false.

According to Ireporter Online, Okonkwo made the clarification during an interview with Symfoni TV while reacting to a claim reportedly made by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Katch Ononuju.

The former Nollywood actor explained that he had established himself financially and owned property before becoming actively involved in politics.

Okonkwo said his decision to support Obi was not motivated by personal benefits, stressing that his loyalty was primarily to Nigeria, its citizens and the Constitution.

He maintained that he had always sought to remain financially independent so that he could express his views freely without being influenced by politicians or political parties.

According to him, he had built the houses he needed before entering active politics and had never depended on Obi or anyone else for accommodation.

Okonkwo recalled that he lived in his father’s house while growing up before moving into his own residence in Lagos after completing his university education.

He said he moved into his own duplex in Lagos in 1994 and lived there for about 14 years, further arguing that this was evidence that he had no reason to seek rent from Obi.

The ADC chieftain also reiterated that his political loyalty was not tied to any individual or political organisation, saying his commitment remained to Nigeria, the Nigerian people, his conscience and the Constitution.

He therefore dismissed the allegation that he had approached Obi for financial assistance with his accommodation, insisting that he had never asked the former Anambra State governor for rent.
