Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Suffering From Partial Amnesia” — APC Chieftain Basiru
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed claims by Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that President Bola Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 general elections.
According to Ireporter Online, Obi had recently expressed confidence that voters would protect their ballots during the 2027 election, while Kwankwaso argued that the APC’s control of more than 30 states would not guarantee victory at the presidential poll.
Kwankwaso reportedly cited the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election as an example of how an incumbent administration can lose despite controlling several states.
However, Basiru dismissed the claims as unrealistic, describing the positions of Obi and Kwankwaso as wishful thinking.
The APC national secretary accused both opposition figures of having a poor understanding of Nigeria’s political history and said they appeared to have forgotten previous electoral outcomes.
“Talk is cheap, and they are poor students of history. Buhari was a sitting President and won re-election and his party won under him. Maybe they are suffering from partial amnesia,” Basiru said.
He further argued that the opposition’s current political structure was not strong enough to guarantee victory in the presidential election, pointing to the absence of governorship candidates for Obi’s party in several states.
According to Basiru, the presidential election would not be won through rhetoric or predictions but through an effective political structure and support across the country.
“Their party does not even have governorship candidates in at least 12 states and National Assembly candidates in a large number of constituencies. Presidential election is not won on empty rhetoric or wishful thinking,” he said.
Basiru expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect President Tinubu in 2027, insisting that the APC remained well positioned to retain the presidency.
