Through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative, the government has begun providing solar-powered boreholes and streetlights to rural communities. These efforts are expected to improve access to water, enhance community safety, and ease tensions between farmers and herders.

The project, which covers 17 communities, has already yielded positive results. Communities like Angwan Makama in Akwanga LGA have seen marked improvements in health and livelihoods. Clean water has reduced disease rates, while the provision of solar-powered streetlights has enhanced security.

Farmers, such as Rakiya Adamu, have seen a significant increase in production and income, while Fulani cattle owners have saved money on veterinary care due to improved water quality. The introduction of solar power and clean water has also sparked economic activity, with local businesses thriving and creating a ripple effect across the region.

Local leaders have reported that the provision of clean water has resulted in the first conflict-free year in the region. The intervention not only addresses the immediate needs of these communities but also serves as a model for replicating solutions in other parts of the state and beyond.
