FG Summons TCN, AEDC, IBEDC Chiefs Over Electricity Woes

Amidst mounting concerns over erratic electricity supply, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has called for a high-stakes meeting with the heads of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). This move underscores the government’s determination to address the persistent issue of poor power supply plaguing their respective service areas.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the minister, Bolaji Tunji, the urgency of the situation was emphasized. Despite increased pressure on power generation companies (GenCos) to boost output, many regions continue to grapple with inadequate electricity supply.

Tunji revealed that power generation has surged to over 4000MW in recent days, even amidst challenges such as gas shortages. However, the failure of some distribution companies (DisCos) to fully utilize the available power, coupled with vandalism of critical transmission infrastructure, has exacerbated the situation.

In response, Minister Adelabu has issued a stern warning to non-performing DisCos, threatening them with the possibility of license revocation. Additionally, he has directed TCN to expedite repair work on damaged transmission lines to restore stability to the grid.

As the nation grapples with the fallout of inconsistent power supply, the upcoming meeting signals a pivotal moment in the quest for lasting solutions.
