Three people have been confirmed dead following a devastating fire that engulfed the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House in Lagos on Christmas Eve.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), spokesperson Nosa Okunboron said on Saturday that the recovered bodies included an adult woman trapped under the collapsed structure and a man found with severe injuries. Another body was also recovered as rescue efforts continued.

Eight individuals, including a firefighter, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Additionally, three men and two women with minor injuries received first aid at the scene and were later discharged.

Okunboron noted that search and rescue operations were ongoing, led by LASEMA in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Red Cross, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. The agency assured the public that updates would be provided as the situation developed.
