According to law enforcement sources, the Zamfara State Police Command successfully thwarted an attempt by armed bandits to block a major highway in the state. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, stated that officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, under the leadership of ASP Aliyu Bilyaminu Koko, were on routine patrol along the Tsafe–Yankuzo axis when they received intelligence indicating that bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, had obstructed the Tsafe–Yanwarin Daji Road.

Upon reaching the location, police encountered heavy gunfire from the assailants, resulting in an intense shootout. Some bandits reportedly fled into the bush with possible injuries, while others escaped by jumping into a nearby riverside.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of one suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari, also known as “Bingil,” who surrendered to officers and is now in police custody. “Umar Alhaji Buhari ‘Bingil’ is under investigation, after which appropriate legal action will be taken,” he stated.

CP Maikaba praised residents for providing timely and actionable information that aided the swift police response. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Zamfara State.
