Securing a second passport has become increasingly appealing for individuals seeking enhanced global mobility, expanded business prospects, and long-term security. While citizenship regulations vary across nations, several countries provide relatively straightforward pathways through investment or ancestry.

According to recent reports, six countries stand out for offering some of the easiest routes to citizenship. Dominica, for instance, operates a highly efficient and affordable citizenship-by-investment program. Applicants can qualify by contributing to the government’s Economic Diversification Fund or investing in approved real estate. Processing is typically completed within months, with citizenship granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to more than 140 countries, including the Schengen Zone. Dual citizenship is permitted, and no residency requirement applies.

Ireland presents a simple option for those with Irish ancestry. Individuals with an Irish-born parent automatically qualify, while those with an Irish-born grandparent can apply through the Foreign Births Register. Irish citizenship confers full European Union rights, including freedom of movement, and dual nationality is allowed without a language test for applicants by descent.

Turkey offers a fast-track citizenship pathway through investment. Foreign nationals who purchase qualifying real estate valued at a minimum of $400,000 can obtain citizenship within months. The program does not require applicants to reside in Turkey or renounce existing nationality, and Turkish passport holders enjoy broad visa-free access to multiple countries.

Portugal’s Golden Visa program remains one of Europe’s most attractive residency-to-citizenship schemes. Applicants who maintain legal residence for five years and meet investment criteria—such as contributions to venture capital funds—become eligible for citizenship. Successful applicants receive an EU passport, Schengen Area access, and the right to hold dual nationality, provided they pass a basic Portuguese language test.

Vanuatu operates one of the world’s fastest citizenship programs. Under its Development Support Program, applicants can gain citizenship in as little as two months following a financial contribution. Vanuatu’s passport allows visa-free access to over 100 destinations, imposes no taxes on global income or capital gains, and has minimal residency requirements, appealing to those seeking rapid, low-bureaucracy citizenship.

Italy offers citizenship by descent to individuals with an Italian parent or grandparent. Applicants must submit official documentation proving a direct familial link, following recent updates to eligibility rules. Italian citizenship grants full EU rights, extensive visa-free travel, and the ability to pass nationality to future generations. Dual citizenship is allowed, and no language test is required for descent-based applicants.
