The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the semi-finals of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over Togo’s Sparrow Hawks in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.

According to Ireporter Online, the defending champions maintained their impressive run in the competition with their second consecutive win, having earlier defeated Ghana 4-2 in their opening Group B fixture.

The victory saw Nigeria secure six points from two matches, guaranteeing their place in the last four with one group game still remaining. The result also ended Togo’s hopes of advancing after they suffered another defeat following their earlier loss to Burkina Faso.

The two sides played out a cagey first half, with neither team able to create enough clear-cut opportunities to break the deadlock. However, Nigeria returned from the break with renewed determination and quickly took control of the encounter.

Forward Muiz Adeleke opened the scoring just a minute into the second half before doubling Nigeria’s advantage in the 57th minute with another impressive finish.

Adeleke’s latest performance took his tally to four goals in two matches, placing him among the standout players of the tournament.

Abdullahi Agbeloye later sealed the emphatic victory for the Flying Eagles after scoring Nigeria’s third goal five minutes from the end of the match.

The result strengthens Nigeria’s position at the top of Group B and confirms their progression to the semi-finals. The Flying Eagles will now face Burkina Faso on Sunday in their final group-stage fixture as they continue their pursuit of another WAFU B title.
