Reports had surfaced online alleging that Ude-Okoye and the PDP National Vice Chairman (South East), Ali Odefa, were taken into custody for allegedly altering the party’s primary election guidelines in relation to the Imo State Governorship primary.
A PDP chieftain, Mike Iheanaetu, had petitioned the police, claiming that the documents presented in court, which led to Ude-Okoye’s recognition as National Secretary, were falsified.
However, in an interview with Vanguard, Ude-Okoye dismissed the claims, asserting that he is currently at his residence in Enugu and has not been arrested or involved in any forgery.
He acknowledged that he was invited to a police station in Abuja last Wednesday but clarified that he was released after 20 minutes without any charges filed against him.
“As a law-abiding citizen, I am willing to cooperate fully with any investigation,” Ude-Okoye stated.
“I am not in detention; I am in my house in Enugu and not under any form of arrest. I have no involvement in the forgery of any document, and I did not instruct anyone to forge documents on my behalf,” he added.
Iheanaetu alleged that the disputed documents were undated and unsigned, while the original primary election guidelines bore the signatures of former PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, and former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, dated February 17, 2022.
The police are expected to continue their investigation into the matter.
