Former Super Falcons Goalkeeper Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni Passes Away

The football world mourns the loss of one of its shining stars as Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, the legendary former Super Falcons goalkeeper, has bid her final farewell.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took to its social media handles to confirm the heartbreaking news of Aluko’s passing after a valiant eight-year struggle against breast cancer.

In a poignant statement, the NFF expressed, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, after her courageous battle with cancer. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Aluko’s journey with cancer began in April 2017, and despite initially receiving a clean bill of health after undergoing treatment and a mastectomy, she faced a relapse in January 2019. Undeterred, she confronted the disease with unwavering determination, undergoing ten rounds of chemotherapy.

Her resilience and spirit both on and off the field serve as an inspiration to many, leaving an indelible mark on the footballing community and beyond.

In another development, the Nigeria Football Federation has appointed the seasoned Augustine Eguavoen as the interim coach of the men’s national team, the Super Eagles. This decision comes on the heels of former coach Jose Peseiro’s departure following the expiration of his contract.

Eguavoen, a familiar face in Nigerian football, previously led the Super Eagles to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), showcasing his adept leadership skills and tactical prowess. While the NFF is yet to formally comment on a permanent replacement, Eguavoen will dutifully guide the team during this transitional period.
