Fresh Update As Police Shoot Peterside Dead In Port Harcourt

Alafuro Peterside, a father of three who was tragically shot by a police officer at a popular bar along Stadium Road in Port Harcourt, has been laid to rest.

The burial took place at a private cemetery in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Friday.

Following the burial, a reception in memory of the late Peterside was held at the Port Harcourt Club, where family, friends, and sympathizers gathered to pay their final respects.

The killing of the 42-year-old Peterside, which occurred in early August this year in the presence of his wife and children, sparked widespread public outrage. Various groups, including the Ijaw Youths Congress, called for justice.

Enefaa Georgewill, Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation, also condemned the incident and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation, emphasizing that the matter should not be overlooked.

Georgewill further urged the police to disclose the identity of the alleged perpetrator and ensure that they face legal consequences. Although the police officer responsible for Peterside’s death has not been named by the Rivers State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police stated that charges have been filed against the suspect.

During the funeral, Josephine, the younger sister of the deceased, called for a swift and fair trial in the ongoing legal proceedings.

She stated, “It is shocking that my brother was taken by a trigger-happy police officer.

“I am calling on the government and the police to give us justice because this soul won’t just go like that.

“You can see his kids are young. The wife is young. It’s painful and nobody. That is why we are asking the government to give us justice.”
